O Pico do Petróleo e a tragédia no Zimbabue

Perhaps you may have heard that the cause of lack of oil, gasoline and other commodities in Harare and other cities in Zimbabwe stems from an inept government, corruption and the collapse of the Zimbabwean dollar. Or, maybe you heard another story, such as it being the result of a plot by the West to destroy that country financially through sanctions and other forms of harassment.

I think, rather than dwelling the causes of the crisis here, we might well consider how this example of a once bustling city’s collapse stemming from a lack of supply of gasoline and oil in particular, could provide us warning as to what sort of fate awaits our own cities once the reality of peak oil hits home.

Definitely something to consider as you think about packing your bags and moving to the countryside, or somewhere else where you can become self-sufficient.
